Nevada side of Heavenly ski resort

The Nevada side of Heavenly is larger than the California side. Most of the ski runs are wide, long cruising runs - the type I enjoy the most. To reach the this side of the mountain from the California side, you have to take the Sky Express chair lift to the top. Then you take the Skyline Trail, which takes you into Nevada. When you reach the stateline, you are greeted with this sign:

As you ski over into Nevada, the wonderful view of desert provides a different contrast to the California side, which provides a view of Lake Tahoe. You can see clear into Utah from this point.

The view from the top of the Big Dipper trail gives a nice view of the east side of Lake Tahoe.

This is the Big Dipper trail, which is a wide intermediate ski run.

If you start from the top of the Big Dipper run, there are two very good cruising runs that spur off it that I strongly recommend. They are called Galaxy and Perimeter. This is a part of the Galaxy ski run, which is the flatter of the two:

Perimeter is a slightly steeper run with an added bonus - it has a terrain park on it, which is available to ski on. It was a lot of fun.

Do you remember when Sonny Bono was killed when he hit a tree while skiing? This is the run he died on, called Orion, which comes off the top of Big Dipper.

This is Little Dipper, a black diamond ski run. The object just left of the center of the picture is the East Peak Lodge restaurant. The ski resort had a terrain park that was going to be used for a race, and they allowed skiers on the twisty course.
