Joshua Tree National
Park is located off of Interstate 10, about 30-45 minutes east of Palm Springs.
It's a beautiful desert park with 5 oasis areas with running water. My friend
Jian and I stayed at the the Cottonwood campground, which is located in the southern
entrance. You can also get into the park from the northern side from California
state Highway 62.
This park is significant because of the fact that two different desert ecosystems
come together here. The Mohave and Colorado deserts "merge" together
throughout the park through a "transition zone". The lower desert elevations
less than 3,000 feet are in the Colorado desert, while the Mohave desert is 3,000
feet and higher.
Terrain - These are pictures of the different
terrain and other features that can be found in the park.
Flowers and plants
- If you don't think there's life in the desert, then you've never taken the time
to explore one. These are pictures of different flowers and plants that grow very
well in the desert.
