Willard Airport

Willard Airport is a very nice facility. It's actually a reasonably modern airport. It's much better than the sick joke that San Jose, California (aka. The heart of Silicon Valley) calls an airport, which is why I fly out of San Francisco.

The airport is medium sized, and only has turboprop service. There have been plans to get jet service, but they're working on it. The airport is surrounded by corn fields (I'm **NOT** making this up!!), which would definitely scare some people who are coming to the area for the first time. Either way, I like the place.

During a typical approach, you are very close to the corn fields, depending on which runway you are landing on.

My parents were flying out to visit me for the first time. I told them that the airport is surrounded by corn fields and they laughed.

When they arrived, my dad asked me as a joke,

"Erik, do they use the airplanes for crop dusting? You're so close to the corn on approach that you can reach out and grab an ear!"

"No, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did."

My dad has a really bizarre sense of humor. It's something I've grown up with.

At least they enjoyed their visit...
